As he opens up his eyes, he can’t help but be amazed of how he looks forward to every day, just like a little kid, giggling in excitement every time there’s a new gift, waiting to be opened and marveled at.
The gift of life, that is. He gets up and does his usual routine – a few stretches here and there, and a short prayer of thanks to the Supreme Being above. He holds on to his faith like nothing else – strengthen by the will and determination to face life’s challenges.
This morning was different though – as he was somehow looking – searching – for someone. For a while, he forgot. How silly of him. He realizes and asks, “Where is she?”.
Going out of their room with a smile, he comes down and surveys their house. His attention then was caught by a familiar smell – cooked bacon, eggs and toasted bread.
As he makes his way to the kitchen, he sees her.
The woman that he loves.
The woman that he promised a lifetime to be with.
The woman that made him realize how more beautiful life can be – even at the toughest of times.
He marvels at the idea of waking up to this – for many days to come. Of course, it doesn’t go that way every time, and he knows it. There will be times that he will be the one doing it – and he wouldn’t mind. Moments like these are the ones you get to cherish the most.
She, on the other hand, knows he’s there – and she knows that he’s been staring at her for the longest time she could imagine. She doesn’t mind that, too. She has been longing to do this from the moment they promised to take care of each other – through thick and thin – through ups and downs.
She decides to face him – who by the way is already behind her. Their eyes meet and they gaze at each other’s beauty.
“Good morning”, as they say in unison. They laugh and then share a quick kiss on the lips – passionate and full of love. As they break the kiss, their foreheads stay in touch together.
She: “Breakfast is ready, my love.”
He: “You cooked for us.”
She: “Yes! You liked it?”
He: “No, I love it! Don’t spoil me on this. You know I would want this everyday.”
She: “Silly! You won’t do this for me, too?”
He: “Of course, I will. Everything’s easy when it’s all for you…”
And their mornings will never be the same again…
